The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) Faculty Development and Leadership in Palliative Care Workshop Advanced was held last month in Portland, Oregon. aims to prepare nursing faculty to advance undergraduate and graduate palliative care curricula.
The July 2026 gathering marked the second year of the Cunniff-Dixon Foundation’s four-year commitment to support this exceptional program. The goal of the two-day immersion is to equip nursing educators from across the country with the knowledge, skills, and resources to prepare the next generation of nurses to provide compassionate, high-quality care for individuals and families facing serious illness and the end of life.
The impact of the workshop was evident throughout the two-day gathering. Meghan Lippe, PhD, RN, ANEF, FPCN, FAAN, one of the workshop creators, shared, “I truly believe this was our best workshop yet. One participant, who has been a nurse for more than 30 years, told us these were two of the best days of her entire career.”
An especially meaningful highlight was the return of a participant who presented a poster showcasing the progress she had made over the past year in implementing the goals she established at the previous workshop. While much of the educational content is intentionally consistent from year to year, she reflected that she was in a completely different place with curriculum integration this year. As a result, the same material resonated in new ways, meeting her evolving needs and inspiring the next phase of her work.
Adding another memorable dimension to the experience, University of Portland faculty member Maureen Briare shared the gift of live harp music throughout the workshop, creating moments of reflection, peace, and connection that beautifully complemented the learning environment.
The workshop was filled with rich educational content, meaningful collaboration, and countless moments of inspiration. The Cunniff-Dixon Foundation is deeply grateful for the opportunity to support this remarkable gathering and its mission of strengthening end-of-life nursing education across the country.
