Meet Carrie Cormack, DNP, APRN, CPNP – an incredible pediatric palliative care nurse practitioner, educator, and leader based in Charleston, South Carolina!
As Associate Professor and lead palliative care faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Nursing, she’s a Distinguished Professor in Palliative Care, dedicated to training the next generation of nurses.
Carrie earned her BSN from Saint Anselm College, MSN and DNP from MUSC, and holds certifications from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center. She’s also a Fellow of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (FPCN) and the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).
Clinically, she specializes in perinatal and pediatric palliative care at MUSC Children’s Health, including Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and the Advanced Fetal Care Center – providing compassionate, family-centered support from diagnosis through end-of-life when needed.
We had the privilege of meeting Carrie at an ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium) workshop and were blown away! She’s been instrumental in integrating the ELNEC curriculum into MUSC’s programs (one of the few requiring palliative care training for all students), contributing to graduate and pediatric modules, and even co-directing international seminars to advance care in low-resource countries.
An emerging leader in palliative care education, Carrie has published on preparing advanced practice nurses for primary palliative care, earned the ELNEC Award of Excellence, and passionately advocates that palliative care is supportive care throughout serious illness – not just hospice.
We hope you’ll love her inspiring CDF Influencer Interview as much as we do!
